Eel traps come in two colours either black or green, it makes no difference to the eels and just depends on what is available on the day. Traps are made in China, and it’s hard to designate and ensure we only get one colour. However, the colour of the trap makes no difference to the capture rates.

Traps need to have a rope attached so you can throw them into the dam and retrieve them. You can purchase a rope and float through accessories. This is a 10 meter rope and a float. The float is important in case you lose a trap or throw it in too far. By having a float on the end it makes it easy to find and retrieve. To purchase accessories “Click Here”

The eel traps are an Opera House shape with two funnel entrances each end. When you attach the rope you need to do so in the middle. This ensures that when you pull the trap in with your eels in it they are pushed to the side not to the ends with the funnel entrances. There is a carry rope on each trap, but don’t attach the rope to it, attach it to the solid steel frame. This ensures that the trap can support the full weight of dragging in a loaded trap

When you get a trap it has some cable ties with it. See the next article on catching eels to see how to use them.
“Warning – these eel traps are not for use in Public Waters – only private farm dams”.
